About two-thirds of the total land area of the Upper Peninsula is commercial forest land. Frequently owned in very large holdings, these lands are purchased by forest products companies and investment groups. Knowledge of these markets is necessary for this work; so is familiarity with both the timber types found in the region and the characteristics that determine the quality of these timber stands. When needed, we work with consulting foresters on these assignments.
